  TIA/T-SPLOST FORUM 5:30 PM

5:30 reception
6:30 presentations and Discussion

ROSWELL, GA – Roswell City Hall will be the location of a transportation education and advocacy forum on Monday, May 21st, to assist voters in their decision how to vote in the T-SPLOST (Transportation-Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) referendum later this summer. This referendum was authorized by the Transportation Investment Act (TIA) of 2010 as passed by the Georgia General Assembly, and will be held during the Georgia primary election on July 31st. A 10-year 1% sales tax would be collected in each of the 12 regions of the state where it passes. Roswell is part of Region 3 or the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) which can approve or reject the referendum which would affect only Region 3. “We have serious transportation woes in our area”, says Roswell Councilmember Dr. Betty Price, who serves as the Roswell City Council liaison to the Roswell Department of Transportation (RDOT). “We need to be pro-active in finding solutions for our transportation needs in the 21st century.” “If the referendum passes, it has been determined that 85% of the revenue raised in Region 3 would go to Region 3 at large, while 15% of the tax would go to a pre-approved list of local projects. Specifically for Roswell this includes funding for needed improvements at the intersection of Holcomb Bridge Road and SR 400, along the ‘Gateway’ project on SR 9 South Atlanta Street, and for SR 140 and Houze and Rucker Roads in conjunction with the cities of Alpharetta and Milton.” “We wish to provide an opportunity for all citizens to discuss this very important issue,” says Price. Special guests and presenters at the forum will be representatives from the Roswell Department of Transportation (RDOT), the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the Council for Quality Growth (CQG), the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce (NFCOC), Metro Atlanta Voter Education Network (MAVEN), Citizens for Transportation Mobility (CTM), the local grassroots Tea Party, and the Transportation Leadership Coalition (TLC). There will be a reception at 5:30 P.M. in the Rotunda of City Hall, followed by presentations at 6:30 P.M. on the 2nd floor with discussion and time for questions and answers. For information, please contact Councilmember Betty Price at bprice@roswellgov.com.
