  "African Americans at the Smith Plantation" Exhibit

This exhibit places the history of African Americans who worked at the Smith Plantation in a greater context of the history of African Americans in the American South. It sheds light on those who served the Smith Family and journeyed with them from the coast. This exhibit demonstrates the progression of the home from a time when African Americans labored as slaves to a time when the home was actually the residence of an African American woman.   11th Annual Roswell Roots

11th Annual Roswell Roots, celebrating Black History & Culture. The agenda is full of both new programs, events and exhibits as well as the return of many favorites. For children, the festival is hosting a touring show called “Heroes of the Underground Railroad” plus book events. For the foodies, we’re bringing back Sallie Ann Robinson at Barrington Hall who will be cooking up some good Gullah food while telling great stories plus we’re introducing the first “Cornbread Cook-Off” at Pleasant Hill Community Center. The Unity Concert and “Slammin’ in the Suburbs” Poetry Slam are favorite annual events which are returning. And, our headliner event this year is a performance by “The McIntosh County Shouters” with an intro by artist, historian and UGA professor, Art Rosenbaum. These plus five month-long exhibits provide something entertaining and educational for everyone to enjoy!
